This was actually a gate to a spiral staircase leading to a crypt in an ancient church, I think, in Wrocław, Poland. But it coud also lead to a prison/dungeon/dunjon/jail/gaol/...

Scaled to 50% after some low-light noise removal. If you want to use this image in a print, make sure it's only a smal part of the image, or ask me for the original files.
