This is Houghton House in Bedfordshire, in the UK; it was a hunting lodge (!!!) built in in 1621.

I have scaled it to 50% of the original size, and also removed a person who didn't give permission to be in the picture

but otherwise it's straight from the camera. Original (without the person) on request.

Some things you might do with this image -
. use levels and curves to increase dynamic range and contrast, to make a more dramatic picture;
. change the sky to a sunset, and add lightning

. after processing, run "sharpen" (it works better than unsharp, very often) - in gimp, try maybe 70% sharp.
. you could run the lens distortion filter and use the perspective tool to get rid of the fish-eye effect, if you wanted.
